Programs

DWARTOK is a non-profit organization that works in the field of human rights and particularly in the children’s sector with a budget of $68,000.00 for the year 2022-2023. This organization’s mission is to support the most vulnerable in the light of the Convention on the Rights of the Child voted in 1989 by more than 195 countries, including Haiti. DWARTOK works on four (4) essential points of this Convention: Rights to Education, Right to Housing, Rights to health, and Right to Food.

Why these rights?

RIGHT to Education

Education as a human right means:

The right to education is legally guaranteed for all without any discrimination states have the obligation to protect, respect, and fulfil the right to education there are ways to hold states accountable for violations or deprivations of the right to education.

In Haiti, according to figures published by the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), more than 80% of primary schools are not public, despite efforts to make primary schools accessible to the largest number of children in the country. households whose children do not have access to this right. With the precarious economic situation of Haitian families, more than 200,000 children, according to the report published by UNICEF in Haiti, do not have access to classrooms. In this sense, DWARTOK intends to provide support to households whose children do not have access to this right.

RIGHT to Housing

After the terrible Earth of January 12, 2010 which destroyed thousands of homes and forced several hundred families to take refuge in tents, the issue of housing remains a real problem for families. Despite neighborhood rehabilitation programs initiated by organizations working in the construction sector with funding from the World Bank, this has not yielded the expected results. In 2022, more than 12 years after the earthquake, gang warfare has worsened the situation of families who are forced to move and abandon their homes. Children are the main victims of the situation. DWARTOK will advocate in this direction for the protection of children who have the right to housing.

RIGHT TO Health

It is the most sensitive sector of children’s lives with the infant and maternal mortality rate that remains very high in Haiti compared to other Caribbean countries. UNICEF, which is a united nations body that works in the field of children, has revealed that in Haiti out of 1000 live births for the last five (5) years, 59 children die before reaching their first birthday, 32 in their first month of life and nearly one in 12 children dies before reaching the age of five (5), according to the Mortality, Morbidity and Use of Services Survey (EMMUS-VI). Figures that cannot leave indifferent DWARTOK which intends to take concrete actions and support the health sector responsible for the care of poor children. Even more, vaccination remains a luxury for the vast majority of households in Haiti. If the State offers families the opportunity to have access to certain essential vaccines, for the rest it is total abandonment for lack of means.

RIGHT to Nutrition

With the deterioration of the security situation in the country, children will still be the big victims with a negative projection where severe malnutrition could affect more than 80,000 children under five (5) years old this year against 41,000 in the same period of the previous year according to UNICEF figures. The UN Agency recalled that in 2021 more than 217,000 children under five (5) suffered from aïgue malnutrition according to estimates of humanitarian needs. Today, getting products to public markets with gang warfare is extremely difficult. The majority of transport companies have stopped their operations towards the Great South of the country, which is considered the Attic of the Capital. A situation that may still pose more problems for families and especially for the proper feeding of children.

Social Impact

Every single individual can make a positive impact in the world. It all depends upon you as an individual what type of impact you really are determined to make. May this quote inspire you to act and make the biggest positive impact in the world so that you aid in the development and progression of mankind.
“Could anything be better than this Waking up every day knowing that lots of people are smiling because you chose to impact lives, making the world a better place.” Anyaele Sam Chiyson

RIGHT to Leisure

Child’s right to leisure, play and culture. The right to play.
all children have a fundamental right to be able to engage in leisure, play and cultural activities, hereafter referred to as ‘the right to play’.  Children’s rights to rest, leisure, play and recreational activities and their rights to participate in cultural and artistic life. Together, these rights emphasize the importance of children having both adequate access to appropriate things to do and places to be in their free time and adequate time and energy to avail of these opportunities.
DWARTOK intends to intervene in these different areas to support the most vulnerable families in these five areas relating to the rights of the child.
